Hydrogen Storage System via Solid-State Hydrogen Storage Tank

Grenoble, France, April 19, 2010. A new Hydrogen Storage System can store hydrogen at low pressure in a short period of time- claimed and produced by McPhy Energy.

The company announced recently that it has signed contract with CEA Liten Frence Laboratory of Innovation for New Energy to test at least two solid-state hydrogen storage tanks with 1kg and 15kg weight.

The tank is said to be suitable for filling via solar or wind powered hydrogen production system, and that its modular design allows loading and unloading of hydrogen with almost no energy losses.

Stored hydrogen can be converted into energy via fuel cell technology.

I feel that this new discovery will enhance both hydrogen station infrastructure possibilities as well as fuel cell car production and/or for other fuel cell applications.

CEA Liten testing of the tank is targeted in an industrial scale of storing through electrolyser and energy conversion with the use of fuel cell.

McPhy chief executive Pascal Mauberger in his talk with BusinessGreen.com said that the company plans to start commercial production of the tanks where the company is located, mid this year.

McPhy Energy is a young innovative company created in 2008 to industrialize the patents developed by the CNRS labs (Néel institute – CRETA – LEGI) in Grenoble France. McPhy Energy owns a revolutionary process to store hydrogen using magnesium hydrides. The company is managed by Pascal Mauberger and supported by EMERTEC venture capital and AREVA. Member of the TENERRDIS cluster, McPhy Energy is involved as a partner or a subcontractor in several research projects. (from McPhy.com)
