Hydrogen appliances, what I would like to expect here are
actual home and personal appliances that are powered by
hydrogen. Like Angstrom Power's hydrogen-powered Motoslvr
cell phones. Their prototype is claimed to last twice as
long between refueling than phones powered with lithium
ion batteries. The fuel cell were made so small to fit
comfortably inside the phone.
Or maybe I would like to see in the near future a
refrigerator and other home appliances powered by hydrogen
through an Artificial Inorganic Leaf (AIL)-a "biophotolysis" technology.
Here's something intriguing video on Fuel Cell Charger.
My question in this video is that, I don't know what the
cartridge is made of and how is it able to electrolyze the
water that is filled in it. My suspicion is that it is
battery operated, and I don't know the conversion
efficiency. But nevertheless, it was able to demonstrate
an innovation that could be enhanced.
An article from US News Science features Timothy Dolan, an
experimenter, who calls himself "a developer of
technology".
For the last five years, he has been using
hydrogen appliances such as a gas range, and even operates a lawn mower and a portable generator. He said that the only thing wasted in doing so was sunlight.
Having his electrolysis system takes place in an enclosed
tank, he said that the hydrogen gas "compresses itself — I
stop it at 2,000 psi (pounds per square inch)."
He further said that "it's simply a matter of making the
gas orifices a little smaller to compensate for the
smaller molecular weight of hydrogen as opposed to natural
gas."
He said that "fear" made us resist in using hydrogen.
Hydrogen as source of energy holds much promise for a
future in which everyone can have energy that is efficient
and clean and that it can be produced home-based. A very
empowering and liberating feat for the humanity.
